Services
What the Iguanas do
We localize your game for players around the globe in a seamless way, crafting stories that sound natural and connected to your specific audience. Our work is high-quality, creative, authentic, and natural.
Game Localization & Transcreation
We are specialists in getting what you mean and rewriting it in a different language through our handmade 5-layer process. Our text is creative, high-quality, and tailored to your needs.
Includes: consultation, translation & review, glossary & style guide build, query handling, and character constraint management.
LQA
The last stage: linguistic quality assurance (LQA) to make sure everything is in order in your game’s build.
Our team has thousands of hours of LQA experience. There’s no bug we can’t crush, no bleeding we can’t stop, no overlap we can’t untangle.
Includes: flexible coverage scopes, a bug report sheet classified by severity, and linguistic fixes.
Disclaimer: We’re committed to not sneaking AI into our translations to speed things up or cut costs. We are enemies of “good enough”.
We offer a high-quality human translation, better than any combination of AIs could produce, edited or not.
About
Who the Iguanas are
We are a small Brazilian studio based in Italy, founded by industry veteran Rafael Matias, focused on indie studios.
We are Iguanas native to the Game Localization habitat. When we get our claws on a project, we’re restless and adaptive, only satisfied once we’ve crafted linguistic solutions tailored to our clients’ environment and to the people we really work for: the players.
When not working, we’re chill creatures that love to play games and bask in our routines.
All our brand identity and illustrations were beautifully done by Ana Vargas.
Steam page
What the Iguanas recommend for starters
Instead of localizing your full game from the beginning, we suggest you start with the Steam page for several reasons.
It provides good marketing data, it’s a cheaper investment, and you’ll be able to confirm that the Iguanas are for real.
Spoiler alert: you may fall in love.
Mission & Values
What the Iguanas fight for
This section isn’t decoration or corporate hypocrisy. We care about being coherent and transparent.
We act in the same way we think and speak. We strive to be a better partner for our clients and for our Iguanas. Our moral compass always points toward what’s best for everyone, not just one or a few individuals.
Our mission
To be the benchmark among Game Localization studios: for the quality of our work and for how we treat our Iguanas.
Fair to our Iguanas
Our Iguanas are the heart and soul of who we are, whether they are freelancers or full-time employees. The gaming industry left its scars on our skin, and now we want to show that it is possible to cultivate a safer and better environment for everyone, wherever they are.
Quality over volume
We’re not predators, and we don’t bite off more than we can chew. Second only to our principles, quality comes before everything. We won’t sacrifice it for money or big volume promises. We are allergic to “good enough”.
Human translation
Or should I say Iguana translation? To us, localization is an art and, as such, it should be expressed by humans. We encourage our team to be creative, authentic, and as natural as possible in their own language, while respecting the author’s original intent.
Work
How much EXP the Iguanas have
Iguana Localize is a new studio. The games below are projects our founder worked on as a linguist through third parties. They’re here for context on experience, not as Iguana Localize’s projects.

FAQ
The Iguanas answer your questions
No. We are focused on quality, and we are sure we can do better than it. Simple as that.
At the moment, only Brazilian Portuguese. This is the language we know and can properly control the quality of the output. We will be adding other languages slowly as the company and its processes mature.
Localization + review typically costs between $0.10 and $0.15 per word.
An indie game usually has between 3,000 and 20,000 words, so it costs between $300 and $3,000 per language.
We have discounts for indie devs. Talk to us!
Typically less than $100 per language. Check our full pricing.
If you’re an indie dev, talk to us to get an indie discount.
More than an Iguana takes to devour a banana. Our focus is quality, so we can deliver 10,000 words per week and 40-50,000 words per month, translated and reviewed (TEP). If you’re looking for something fast and good enough, we’re not a good match.
Maybe. Localization has a huge ROI (return on investment), but we must be honest: localization alone isn’t magic.
You must first build a game that people want to play and have a good marketing strategy.
Translating your Steam page is a good start to check which markets are worth localizing.
XML, CSV, JSON, PO, XLIFF… Pretty much everything, even Unity and Unreal files if you insist.
You should, and so are we. We are available to sign NDAs. From our side, all our linguists sign an NDA with us and are frequently reminded to secure their folders, be extra cautious with their laptops and take a lot of care when publishing on social media. We don’t take this lightly.
Ultimately, because we’re good at what we do. We believe in humans, and we’re professional, flexible and accessible.
Research from the Iguana Institute shows that 99% of people who test our services fall in love with us (we didn’t want to put 100% to avoid sounding arrogant).
